Forest Service-SoFAR Cohesive Strategy Collaborative Partner and District Silviculturist on the Georgetown Ranger District.

SOFAR Collaborative colleague Dana Walsh is taking a new position with the Forest Service Region 5 as Resource Specialist (Program Manager) for California Landowner Assistance Programs.

Dana graduated from CSU, Humboldt, with a BS in Forestry in 2005. She started working on the Eldorado NF in 2001 as a student temporary employee. She became a District Silviculturist in 2012.

Collaborative partners remember her as very committed to forest restoration and willing to try new ideas such as working with PSW-GTR-220 and the ecological marking strategy at the foundation of the SoFAR Collaborative’s work.

She also co-authored (along with Malcolm North and 25 co-authors) the 2019 paper, Reforestation for Resilience, which pressed for new approaches to reforestation like fire matters, and the role of variable stand structures to withstand future fires.

We wish her the best of luck in her new position and will remember her work ethic, positive nature, and open-minded approach to dealing with the challenging issues of forest management.
